Imagine Main Street is a non-profit organization that has a core group of dedicated volunteers working together to make dreams come true!
We need people to work with vendors, promote on social media, help raise funds, and provide leadership for this arts-centric organization. Is that you?
Our volunteers work tirelessly to plan, create and implement not only our monthly events but also on various Imagine Main Street projects. From planters to benches, the beautification and artistically inspiring additions to our Downtown make our community a great place to live, work and play!
We aspire to inspire a more culturally-vibrant and economically-successful Historic Downtown community, which will have a positive impact on the entire Town of Manchester and our contiguous neighbors.
The Imagine event committee works hard to ensure that the activities we present to the community have something for everyone — not just buying wonderful, originally created product like jewelry, soaps, candles, art, but to have artistic engagement with the community. Creating sidewalk art with chalk, writing spontaneous poetry, offering an ‘open mic’ for aspiring singers, learning how to play the dulcimer, and so much more was in the 2019 schedule. Working closely with staff from Manchester Schools is opening doors to youthful engagement that will support a young person’s interest and education in the business of the arts, and build the IMS committees of the future. During 2020 the committee will produce the Imagine Inside Market in February, Strollin on Main in June, Steam Rollin’ in September, and the newest event, an annual Caroling on Main in December with Town Troubadour Bill Ludwig!
Our efforts have helped birth Young@Art CT and Art FUD and bring hundreds of visitors and arts lovers into WORK_SPACE (formerly MCC on Main) . The Manchester Public Library has an active schedule of arts activities, as do several businesses in our downtown, including The Firestone (former Pinewood Furniture) where you can make your own décor, pots, mugs, glass fused art and so much more. Further, businesses open their doors to posting the work of local artists, and we are grateful for their encouragement and support.
There’s still more to do, more to plan, more to imagine…and you can do so in short term or long term volunteering. Our volunteers range in age, background, talent and ability, so please don’t hesitate to reach out and talk with us about your interest and passion. Write to us at firstname.lastname@example.org for more conversation!
